Your child will have homework this year in the form of math connections, reading record, and word work. Students not meeting grade level expectations in reading fluency will have fluency homework (can count toward reading record minutes).  Occasionally, other projects may be assigned as well.  All homework must be turned in on the day it is due.  Students are given 1 slide per quarter.  The first time they forget their homework in a quarter, they can “slide” and bring in the work the next day without a missing work session or penalty to their grade.  After the slide, if your child does not turn their homework on time he/she will have to stay after school as a consequence for not returning their work on time and will receive late credit for the work. Your child will have to stay after even if he/she brings the work completed the next day.  You will be responsible for finding a ride for your child.  Needing to work or having a hard time finding a ride will not be allowed to be reasons why your child cannot stay.  If your child is sick or misses school for any reason the day of the missing work session, the session will need to be rescheduled for another day after school.  Slides are not cumulative (i.e.--if your child does not use their first quarter slide, that does not mean they have 2 slides to use in second quarter). Also, please note that the slide does not excuse your child from completing the work.  Your child must still turn in the assignment to receive credit for their grade. The slide simply gives them the opportunity to turn in one homework assignment per quarter one day late without penalty.  All homework must be completed and written by the student.  All homework needs to be completed in pencil.  Students should always show their work in math.  If I can’t see how you got the answer and work is necessary (such as in double digit addition or subtraction where trading is necessary) points will be deducted. If the homework has more than one side, your name should go on the side with #1 on it. Points are also deducted for incomplete or sloppy work. Students will not be allowed to call home if they forget their homework.
